We have been talking about how IMPORTANT reading is!
"Research shows that reading everyday is the best way to become a good reader and that the best readers practice everyday with books they've chosen." (The Daily 5-Boushey & Moser-p. 22)
I have created an environment where students know WHY we do things. This sense of urgency makes them want to do things even more because now they have a PURPOSE.
Part of the process was to practice our STAMINA. Once they learned what it was, we set a goal of 20 minutes per day. It took us a week, but we did it!!!! We now have STAMINA!!!

1ST CENTER-READ TO SELF
Students have been introduced to the first CENTER in our class: READ TO SELF.
They were so excited to receive their Book Boxes which will hold 10 books.
I did a lesson on what they're supposed to be doing during this time and how to choose the right spot. When I designed the classroom, I created many inviting spaces for students to go and read, so far it's been great!!

3 WAYS TO READ A BOOK
We have kicked off the year with a lesson on the 3 ways to read a book.
Students are learning how to keep the book opened a little longer by practicing these reading methods. See the video above this post to learn how to do it.
